Rhinitis (Nasal Congestion and Inflammation of the Nasal Mucosa)

Rhinitis is a common ENT condition with various forms:


Types:

  • Allergic rhinitis – triggered by pollen, dust, pet dander, etc.
  • Viral rhinitis (common cold) – usually part of flu or respiratory virus infections.
  • Bacterial rhinitis – associated with thick yellow-green nasal discharge.
  • Chronic rhinitis – long-term nasal blockage and inflammation.


Symptoms:

  • Nasal congestion and difficulty breathing
  • Sneezing and nasal discharge
  • Itching or burning inside the nose
  • Fever (especially in viral cases)
  • Decreased sense of smell


Diagnosis:

  • ENT examination
  • Allergy testing (if allergic rhinitis is suspected)
  • Nasal endoscopy


Treatment:

  • Saline nasal sprays and rinses
  • Antihistamines (for allergies)
  • Decongestant drops or sprays
  • Antibiotics (if bacterial)
  • Rest, hydration, humidified air
