Rhinitis is a common ENT condition with various forms:
Types:
- Allergic rhinitis – triggered by pollen, dust, pet dander, etc.
- Viral rhinitis (common cold) – usually part of flu or respiratory virus infections.
- Bacterial rhinitis – associated with thick yellow-green nasal discharge.
- Chronic rhinitis – long-term nasal blockage and inflammation.
Symptoms:
- Nasal congestion and difficulty breathing
- Sneezing and nasal discharge
- Itching or burning inside the nose
- Fever (especially in viral cases)
- Decreased sense of smell
Diagnosis:
- ENT examination
- Allergy testing (if allergic rhinitis is suspected)
- Nasal endoscopy
Treatment:
- Saline nasal sprays and rinses
- Antihistamines (for allergies)
- Decongestant drops or sprays
- Antibiotics (if bacterial)
- Rest, hydration, humidified air
